The gethuman™ movement was created from the voices of millions of consumers who want to be treated with dignity when they contact an enterprise for customer support. Our goal is to convince enterprises that providing high quality customer service and having satisfied customers costs much less than providing low quality customer service and having unsatisfied customers. We encourage you to post your call center stories (good/bad), opinions about how call centers should operate and anything that would help enhance our gethuman database of gethumans (new companies to add or invalid gethumans). It is our goal that the voice of the consumer will be heard and listened to and that automated call center systems will improve and work better for the consumers!! |

This number is for Health Corporation of America. There is no way to get a human to help me. HCARewards is not listed on gethuman.com. Any ideas?

Margie,
I called this number and got to a live person (that spoke good English) in less than a minute. Simply kept ignoring the prompt and hitting 0#.

i have just been on the phone with an ebay representative on the 800-717-3229 number from your gethuman website, after failing to connect with the live online help on the ebay website. After going through a short menu to get to a live representative, i was put on hold for about 5 minutes and managed to get a live help person to talk to, who was very pleasant and friendly as well as very helpful and informative with the question we had for him. Thank you again for the resource.

I worked for Medco for 7 1/2 years as a customer service representative. I loved my job and really was "happy to help"! I left the company to move to an area that does not have a Medco call center.
1. Customer service-say it 3 times to the IVRU
2. HAVE YOUR ID CARD WITH YOU-The system does recognize your ID and you will only have to verify your information for HIPAA (privace law)
3. DIAL THE PHONE NUMBER ON YOUR CARD! This is VERY important because we are "gated" for certain groups and not all CSRs can take your call.
4. Please understand if we are not able to help you and we have to transfer you to someone who can help you-again-not all CSRs are trained for all groups.
5. Be polite-at least at the start of the call. We understand the frustration because you are unable to get your medicine, dose, covered person, etc.
6. READ YOUR HEALTH PLAN! Medco is a 3rd party benefits administrator. We do not MAKE your plan-your company does! We administer it. If your medicine is not covered it is NOT MEDCO'S FAULT! We will give you options or suggestions or alternative medications for you to speak to your doctor about. We do not decide what is right for you and only you and your doctor can determine if you can take the medication that is SUGGESTED.
7. We do not set your copays. That decision is made by the company you work for or retired from. We administer the plan the way we have received it from your company. We can not change your copays.
8. Understand that your doctor writes your prescription and if he or she does not put something along the lines of "do not substitute" or "brand necessary" then you will get a generic medication if one is available. You may get an alternative medication. If you are not happy and want the brand you most likely will pay a higher copay for the medication. Again, this is determined by your employer's benefit plan, NOT by Medco!
9. Medco has a great website for those of you who are members. There is a great amount of medication information listed as well as the ability to price a medication. Remember to change the quantity for what you need-it may affect your copay.
10. Medco has pharmacists on duty 24/7. They will be happy to answer any questions about your medication. They do not fill your prescription if you use mail order. They will answer questions about shape, color, dosage, strength, etc. They will NOT tell you your copay or why you were charged a certain amount. The CSR will explain anything about YOUR PLAN DESIGN but can do nothing about what you pay for your prescriptions.
11. Think of your prescription drug plan as a menu: Column A is your least costly option-usually generic medications; Column B is what is called a Preferred medication (may go by another name) which is usually a brand medication "preferred" by YOUR PLAN; Column C is the top-tier of the drug chain-you can get it but you will pay a "premium" for the medication. Again, these are set by your plan. Gone are the days (for most of us) that you had a br

Carus/Cobblestone Publishing had great phone service today (Friday) @ 5:50 p.m. -- live operator answered after 2-3 rings; she spoke midwestern English & was in Kansas City; polite; & able to answer my questions & solve problem in minutes.(I wanted to upgrade to a magazine for an older child since my kid has outgrown the one he gets now.)
Carus/Cobblestone publishes a host of kids' magazines like Cricket, Spider, Muse, etc.
Bravo Carus!

Stuart,
I agree that American Express customer service is good. Did you score them on the gethuman main page? We are giving awards to the companies that have good scores.

To get a shipping label to return your modem to Qwest, call 1-888-966-4700, enter the phone number for you service, and then enter 130 when prompted for an extension. I believe this toll free number is the number dialed by Qwest customer service reps. It was given to me, I'm sure by accident, by an obviously new employee. Might be fun to play around with the other extensions, see who you can find.

First of all, a big thank you to gethuman.com, it is an invaluable resource.
I want to share a strategy that never fails. Maybe it is obvious, but here goes:
If you called customer service or any other call center in a large company and the person on the other line was not helpful. Perhaps he was rude or did not know what he was talking about or you just got off on the wrong foot and ended up screaming at each other towards the end of the call. Perhaps you even asked to talk to the manager and still did not get help. JUST DIAL AGAIN. This has never failed. Every time I have done this, on the 2nd, sometimes the 3rd try I end up getting a much nicer, better informed person who handles my problem quickly and efficiently when the operator I had talked to before made it sound impossible. I had just spent half an hour on the phone with a Citicards representative trying to clear up a mistake on my account. We kept going in circles, getting more and more annoyed at each other. So I hung up, dialed the same number again, and within minutes another representative gave me all the answers and even credited back a fee they had charged because of my mistake, which was more than I had hoped for.

And,also, ask to "escalate the call to the next level". Sometimes that next person can resolve a legitimate problem. It may be that the "first level" csr does not have the authority to "do what you want".

To get a human at Apple (i.e. iTunes), use 70. I used it like 3 times before being placed on hold for a representative.
